She ain’t purty, but she’s pretty sweet. The wine, that is. Poker Face features the face of Poker Alice, a legendary card player from Western South Dakota.

Poker Alice wasn’t perfect, but she took care of herself. Quite a fashionable looker in her younger days,  after she was widowed she ran a saloon/gambling hall/house of ill repute near Sturgis, and was once arrested for shooting a man who was causing a ruckus in her business. While she awaited her trial she spent her time in jail smoking cigars and reading the Bible. She was acquitted on the grounds of self defense. She was later arrested again, but was pardoned by the governor because she was 75 years old at the time.

“At my age I suppose I should be knitting. But I would rather play poker with five or six ‘experts’ than eat.” – Alice Ivers Tubbs, Poker Alice

I love, love, love this wine! It is one favorite Prairie Berry Wines. The first sip told me I was in for a real treat, it started off sweet but not overpowering. After the initial sweetness the wine calmed down a bit, it left me with the sensation of having bitten into a perfectly ripe pineapple. The color of this wine is also amazing, I could look at it all day. To me it looks like liquid gold just waiting to be devoured.

I LOVE this wine! It’s always a little different year to year, but always delicious! This is a favorite of my husband’s and mine, perfect for wine and cheese night! I think this would be delicious paired with my shredded pork salad with mango/watermelon/pineapple salsa!

I was skeptical at first. I have had other pineapple wines from other small wineries (in Hawaii). So when this came in the Gen5 club shipment, I wasn’t thrilled. I told my daughter that it was “Maui in a glass”. It is crisp at the outset with a sweet pinepple finish. NUMMY!

I have not been able to find a wine that I liked……. till Poker Face! I bought 6 bottles when I went to Sturgis in 2014. There was none to be had last year… WHY, OH WHY????
Sure glad I have 3 bottles left! Thinking I may have to open one this weekend… :)

My husband and I love this wine. Every time we make it up to South Dakota we stock up but sadly last year when we went up to the winery we were told this was out of stock! Nothing else compares to this wine! Please make more!
