Prairie Berry Winery will call its new Sioux Falls location Prairie Berry East Bank and be open by June.
The Hill City-based business will be next to Queen City Bakery in the Frank Transfer & Storage Building on East Eighth Street across from the 8th & Railroad Center.
“It’s awesome,” co-owner Matt Keck said. “It was a cool design, and we really wanted to do justice to the space, and I think we pulled it off.”
The company has hired about a dozen people for the Sioux Falls location and has been training them in the Black Hills.
Menu development will start this week. Prairie Berry East Bank will offer lunch items as well as meats and cheeses in a wine-tasting area. There also will be a retail space, event area and lower-level wine club lounge.
Many of the materials used to renovate the space have been reclaimed. There’s wood from an old barn in Sioux Falls and metal from an old cooler delivery truck that was found inside.
“It’s such an eclectic blend, and that’s what we were looking for,” Keck said.
A ribbon-cutting is scheduled at 4:30 p.m. May 28, and the plan is to be open to the public by early June.
