Comments Off on Calamity Jane Wins a Jefferson Cup

Prairie Berry Winery took home a Jefferson Cup, the Sweepstakes Award for our Calamity Jane wine, at the Jefferson Cup Invitational Wine Competition on November 16 in Kansas City, Missouri.

Called the “Olympics” of wine competitions, the Jefferson Cup Invitational is not open to every winery willing to submit an entrance fee. Rather, competition officials select the best of the best, culled from tastings and competitions in America throughout the year.

In its 19th year, the Jefferson Cup pre-selected 740 wines to compete from 24 states. From those entries, 20 judges selected just 24 prestigious wines to be awarded the Jefferson Cup, including Calamity Jane.

Named after the rough but gentle spirited Wild West legend, Calamity Jane, our 100% Concord grape wine is soft and not too sweet. Luscious, fresh Concord grape flavors lead to undertones of candied apple and orange zest.

Semi- sweet wine Lawrence Elk, made from black currants, was also a nominee for a Jefferson Cup and earned a Double Gold. Wild Bill was honored with a Gold medal and Peach Mead captured a Silver medal, as did Crab Apple. Anna Pesä Blaufränkisch 2016, Anna Pesä Louka 2017, and Gold Digger won Bronze medals.
