Prairie Berry Winery Awarded Concordance Gold Medal
POSTED: AUG 17, 2004Prairie Berry Winery, a South Dakota winery, has been awarded five medals at the 2004 Indy International Wine Competition in Indianapolis, Indiana, including a top ranking, Concordance Gold, for their semi-sweet Razzy Rhubarb wine. A concordance gold medal is awarded when the judges are unanimous in rating a wine as a gold medal winner. Only 88 concordance gold medals were awarded at this year’s competition out of more than 3,600 wines judged.
Additional awards Prairie Berry received included a silver medal for their Buffaloberry wine, and a bronze medal each for their dry red, Iron Creek, made from South Dakota grown grapes; Pheasant Reserve, a dry red made from a blend of grapes and chokecherries; and Great Grandma’s Chokecherry Bliss, a premium dessert wine made from chokecherries and fortified with kirschwasser spirits.
The largest wine competition outside of California, the thirteenth annual Indy International had wines from 17 countries entered this year with 75 highly respected judges from across North America tasting and reviewing approximately 120 wines a day.
Prairie Berry Winery is a family owned and operated winery located in Hill City, SD. Sandi Vojta, the primary vintner, is a fifth-generation winemaker, continuing a family tradition of hand-crafting South Dakota wines since 1876.
