HILL CITY, SD – The Florida International Wine Competition has announced the medal winners from their 2009 event after sampling 1,382 wine entries. Prairie Berry Winery, Hill City, was awarded a gold medal for their Red Ass Rhubarb wine, a semi-sweet blend of rhubarb and raspberries. Only 180 gold medals were awarded at the competition this year.
This is the first wine competition in 2009 for Prairie Berry. The family-owned local winery has now accumulated 323 medals and accolades for 42 different wines since first entering competitions in 2001. Fifth generation winemaker Sandi Vojta and her husband, Matt Keck, moved Prairie Berry to its current Hill City location from Rapid City in 2004. Found three and a half miles northeast of Hill City on Highway 385, the winery’s Tasting Room is open to the public daily, year-round.
